MAÏMONIDE] Moïse MAÏMONIDE (Translated into Latin by Louis de COMPIÈGNE), De cultu divino ex r. Mosis Majemonidae Liber VIII. Paris, Guidonem Caillou, 1678. In-4, half-leather binding with corners. An important translation that testifies to the reception of Jewish works in the Christian world. This translation of a book by Maimonides on the laws of the Temple and sacrifices was produced by Louis de Compiègne. Born Jewish to a literate father, he converted to Christianity after hearing Bossuet preach in Metz. In fact, since an ordinance dated August 6, 1567, Jews in Metz were obliged to attend preaching sessions at Metz Cathedral. In 1679, Louis de Compiègne de Veil entered the service of Charles II of England, and opportunely converted to Anglicanism. Towards the end of his life, he defined himself as "a native of Metz, a Hebrew by nation, the son of Rabbi David Veil and a Christian by the grace of God". Keywords: judaica, jew, jewish, hebrew, rabbis, jewish, torah, hebrew, hebraica, judaism, synagogue, zionism, pessah, pessach, haggada, haggadah, hagada, hagadah, passover, menora, menorah, hannuka, hannuca, hannucca, hanouccah, torah, juden, israélite, Israël, antisemitism, antisémitisme, dreyfus, meguila, sepharade, sefarad, ketouba
