Paris, Jean Lacquehay, 1629.
Small in-8, handsomely bound in 19th-century full red morocco, triple fillet framing the boards and gilt corner fleurons, five-rib spine decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons, wide morocco framing lace on the counterplates, gilt edges.
Some ff. restored.
A fine copy of the first French edition of this text by a late 12th-century rabbi (R. Yedaya de Béziers), by Philippe d'Aquin (1558-1650), a Jew from Carpentras who, after his conversion to Catholicism, contributed greatly to a better knowledge of fundamental Jewish texts in France. The copy bears the engraved bookplate of Daniel Huet, bishop of Avranches and famous bibliophile of the late 16th century, but does not appear to come from his library, as it does not bear on the title the handwritten quotation of the Jesuits who inherited it. Binding signed by Petit, Simier's successor.
