BIBLICAL COMMENTARY - GEISMAR DE GRUSSENHEIM] Salomon Ephraim LUNTSCHITZ (1550-1619), Keli Yakar. Amsterdam, Sussman, 1767.
Hebrew work, in-4 format, half cloth binding, handwritten bookplate in Hebrew of Tsvi son of Simon de Grussenheim at bottom of title page. On last page, signature of Cerf Geismar dated August 28, 1859 and statement in Hebrew in which he affirms that this book was given to him as a gift by the Mohel (peritomist) to Lipman, nephew of Tsvi, son of Simon Geismar of Grussenheim, who died in 1869, and his wife Kayla, who died the same year. Other handwritten bookplates are present but have not been deciphered. Restored title page, foxing, dampstaining at the end of the book.
In addition to valuable genealogical information, this book shows that even in a village like Grussenheim, people were still attached to the traditional study of the Bible and its commentaries, and that Hebrew, both in reading and writing, was still well mastered.
