MANUSCRITS] Max NORDAU (1849-1923)
Correspondence addressed to his wife dated and located in Rennes 27 autograph letters in-12, mostly 4 pp. and nearly a hundred pages in all, dated from August 6, 1899 to September 7, 1899.

Max Nordau was in Rennes to cover Captain Dreyfus' retrial as a journalist. Like Herzl, the trial helped open his eyes to the failure of assimilation, and turned him towards Zionism. Letter dated August 7, 1899 excerpts: ...But for the rest of my life I shall never forget the poignant emotion I felt when Dreyfus was introduced. What a tragedy! Letter dated August 8, 1899 excerpts: ... I went to B. Lazare who knows nothing or wants to say nothing.
Extracts from letter of August 9, 1899: And to think that Dreyfus may also have loved his little daughter, and that she was taken away from him for nearly 5 years, and that many times he must have thought he would never see her again... Bad news is circulating. The closed session may last until Monday.
