Max NORDAU (1849-1923)] Gabriel SÜDFELD, Achuzat Mereïm. Prag, Scholl & Landau, 1825. In-16, work in Hebrew, hardback. Spine damaged, brown spots. Important mailing in Hebrew from Ephraim Reuven Mashevitsky to the great Jew Simha Méïr, nicknamed Max Nordau, Warsaw, 1898. This book, small in size, is nevertheless of great importance. It bears witness to the Judaism of Nordau's father, who, in Nordau's own words, received his rabbinical ordination from Rabbi Aquiba Eiger and the Hevat Daat. The book's subject, "Man's Behavior in Society", bears witness to the influence of Haskala on the father's thinking. Ephraim Reuven Mashevitsky was a pupil of the Volozhin yeshiva, and this dispatch on a book given to Nordau testifies to the penetration of Zionist ideas in the bastion of yeshivot that was the Volozhin yeshiva.
