*Laurence LÉVY-BLOCH (1894-1955) After lunch (?) Charcoal on paper mounted on cardboard. Signed lower right. Scene cut off at right and top. 48 x 64 cm Despite missing sections at the top and right, the scene remains highly legible, depicting with empathy this Jewish family worried about the fate of the reclining figure. Laurence Rachel Lévy-Bloch studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille and with Luc-Olivier Merson in Paris. She exhibited regularly in the 1920s and 1930s at the Salons des Indépendants, the Salons d'Automne and the Tuileries. Her drawings were published in the Jewish magazine Kadimah and L'Illustration Juive. Art historian Emmanuel Bénézit noted that "she depicted with great verve and tenderness the typical scenes of Jewish merchant life in Paris".
