Jacob's Blessing
Etching.
Signed lower right.
44 x 92 cm
Old Isaac is about to die, and wants to bless his eldest son, Esau, but it's Jacob, his mother's favorite son, who takes his place, deceiving his blind father. Jacob, wanting to pass himself off as his brother Esau, puts a skin on his arm. Rebecca, Jacob and Esau's mother, has organized the whole thing, watching over the scene and pushing her beloved son.

His works are in the collections of the British Museum, the V&A, the Germanisches National Museum in Nuremberg, the Albertina in Vienna, the Gambinetto Nazionale della Stampe in Rome, the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
