MADELIOS. MADELIOS men's department store. Paris: Madelios, 1926-1980. - 48 leaflets, most in-8 square. Stapled or seam-sealed, color illustrated covers. Collection of 18 catalogs and flyers from Madelios, one of the historic men's ready-to-wear department stores. Located on Place de la Madeleine in the Trois Quartiers shopping center, the store closed in 2010. The documents gathered here cover the years 1926 to 1980: presentation of items for the coming season or month, New Year's gifts, winter sports, vacations, etc., with numerous black and white reproductions and drawings. The covers are illustrated in color and sometimes signed by a well-known artist, such as Maurice Boitel or Alexey Brodovitch. The 1937 winter sports catalog features a cover designed, engraved and printed by Jean-Gabriel Daragnès, with 4 compositions, one of which is in color. It was printed in an edition of 250 copies, numbered and signed by the artist (no. 248). The last three catalogs, two from the 1970s and one from 1980, are in color, as is the one for May 1968. A very good and rare set. A few small marginal tears on some plates.
