HÉMARD (Joseph). La Véridique histoire de Yau-de-Poêle, Chapeau haut de forme. [Paris: Joseph Hémard, ca. 1921-1922]. - Manuscript in-4, 270 x 208 : 32 ff. 5 drawing plates. Sewn to two cardboard covers, handwritten author, title and address on first cover. Signed autograph manuscript of this story written and illustrated by cartoonist and illustrator Joseph HÉMARD (1880-1961). It was published in the children's magazine Les Petits Bonshommes, starting with issue no. 2 on January 28, 1922 and ending with issue no. 14 on April 22 of the same year. The printed version differs in some respects from the manuscript, the author having changed some words and turns of phrase and shortened some passages. The manuscript is illustrated with 5 plates, including a title page, featuring nine drawings, 7 of them in color, which served as the first models for the illustrations in the printed version (with the exception of the title page). The handwriting, which includes a few crossed-out words, is very neat and legible. Autograph manuscripts by this artist are extremely rare. A very fine document.
