LATTRE (Adolphe de). Costumes de Nice dessinés d'après nature. Paris: Lemercier, 1850. - folio, 370 x 268. Plum half cloth, gilt title on front cover (contemporary binding). Colas, 1787. - Hiler, Bibliography of costume, 528. Fine album comprising 10 color plates of Nice costumes drawn by de Lattre and mounted on tabs, preceded by a lithographed title with black figure by A. Collette. These include a milk merchant, a peasant woman from the Baumettes district and a shepherd from La Briga. These were the last years of the County of Nice before it became part of France in 1860. The work is rare, according to Colas: "I have not seen this complete and numbered suite as indicated in the Lipperheide catalog. The Cabinet des estampes preserves six unnumbered plates from the Lemercier print run, the last three plates are dated 1868 at the address Paris, Sinnett." Adolphe de Lattre (1805-1854) was an ornithologist and draughtsman. He took part in several scientific expeditions to America until 1851. Beautiful suite in fresh colors. Spine oiled, corners dulled, some foxing.
