GAUTIER (Théophile).
De la mode.
Paris: Poulet-Malassis et de Broise, 1858. - In-18, 115 x 90: 33 pp, (1 f.), mute cover. Paperback, in a cream half cloth folder and slipcase, with the same composition as the title and justification on the boards.

Vicaire, III, col. 919. - Carteret, I, p. 331: "a very rare booklet". - Oberlé, Poulet-Malassis, no. 497.

Probably Théophile Gautier's rarest title.

Published in L'Artiste on March 14, 1858, a few copies of this article were printed on pink paper for the Journal des dames, before being reprinted the same year by Poulet-Malassis, with only 30 copies printed. It contains some pertinent artistic considerations on clothing, "which adheres to man like fur to an animal, to such an extent that the real shape of the body has nowadays quite fallen into oblivion"...

A fine copy, in its original condition, very well preserved, in a perfectly executed modern folder and slipcase.
