FONTALLARD (Henri-Gérard).
Histoire d'une épingle par elle-même, in sixteen tableaux.
Paris : chez Osterwald aîné et Rittnev, [1827]. - In-folio, 365 x 282: (1 f.), 16 plates, illustrated cover. Green half marbled basane with corners, gilt roulette, smooth spine decorated, untrimmed, cover preserved (contemporary binding).

Very rare lithographed album.

This amusing pictorial history is composed of 16 captioned lithographs by draughtsman and lithographer Henri-Gérard Fontallard (circa 1798-1843), printed and colored by Ducarne. They are preceded by a text from Le Corsaire (August 17, 1827), adorned with a lithographed vignette, also colored.

Among the successive owners of this pin, which passed from hand to hand, was a "fashionable young man" who had read L'Art de mettre sa cravate.

Only one copy is listed by the CCfr, in the Bibliothèque nationale. It was part of Ambroise Firmin-Didot's prestigious library.

Spine faded, hinges restored but fragile, restorations to second cover. Second plate rebacked, foxing.

Provenance:
Ambroise Firmin-Didot, with bookplate (not included in the catalog of his library dispersed between 1878 and 1884).
