An album comprising 55 pages with approximately 132 portraits of the members of the National Assembly in 1848 (Lamartine, Barbès, Pierre Leroux, Ledru Rolin, Dupin, Guichard, Charras, Deville, Lagrange, Lacaze, Renouard, de Corcelle, etc.) as well as some twenty drawings of the same subject on loose sheets.
Pen and brown ink.
Each vignette is titled at the bottom, several pages have several vignettes, some are double-sided.
(Small folds and holes due to iron gall ink).
30 x 23 cm album dimensions

With the February Revolution of 1848, which took place in Paris from February 22 to 25 under the impetus of liberals and republicans, a section of the people forced Louis-Philippe to abdicate. Alphonse de Lamartine, surrounded by Parisian revolutionaries, proclaimed the Second Republic. Our album bears witness to these precise moments when the laws were passed, and the illustrator was able to scrutinize each profile, adding scathing portraits-charge.
While the caricature of Charras in the album's final pages can be traced back to a lithograph by Cham, André Gill and Bertall also covered the event extensively.
