Two volumes of calligraphic poems, China, Qing period The Chinese title 曲水亭*續蘭亭會**帳 - Qu Shui Ting Xu Lan Ting Hui Zhang can be translated as: "Records of the gathering of the Sinuous Water Pavilion suite in Lanting". This probably refers to a continuation or addition to the spirit of the famous collection Lántíng jí xù - 兰亭集序 - "Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Collection" written by Wang Xizhi, a classic masterpiece of Chinese literature. A loose interpretation of the introduction to these two albums could be translated as follows: "This collection contains poems composed at friendly gatherings where guests gathered to exchange thoughts, recite verses, and savor the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. Inspired by the elegance of the ancients, these moments were imbued with grace and simplicity. Today, in the image of the Orchid Pavilion, 兰亭, we have recreated the atmosphere of these gatherings where poets, scholars and friends meet by the water, wine and music stimulating their creative spirits. The resulting verses reflect both inner harmony and the splendor of the surrounding nature. The purpose of this book is to preserve these precious moments, not only to remember them, but also to pass on this literary spirit to future generations. May those who read these poems feel the impetus and beauty that animated these meetings! This commemoration of the Lanting meeting has also spread to other Asian countries such as Japan and Korea. Although this collection is described as Chinese, the tradition of commemorating the Lanting meeting also spread to Korea, where similar works were produced, leaving open the possibility that this is a Korean version. *- 曲水亭 - Winding River Pavilion: an allusion to a classical tradition in which participants floated wine goblets on a stream to inspire their poetic compositions. **-續蘭亭會-Continuation of the Orchid Pavilion meeting: this text seems intent on extending or drawing inspiration from the aesthetics and spirit of classical Chinese poems.
