Cinnabar red lacquer covered round box decorated with Immortals, China, 19th century Carved on the lid, in a medallion surrounded by a frieze of grecques, seven of the Immortals Bāxiān - 八 仙, standing on a shore amidst a lakeside landscape of rocks, pavilions, pines, wutong or shrubs and an island linked to the shore by a bridge. In the background, mountains, Shoulao with a child sitting on a cloud, a crane beside him. The edges of the lid and base are carved in lobed rectangular medallions with scholars and servants in a variety of landscapes, alternating with auspicious objects. The heel is decorated with a leiwen frieze. The underside and interior are black lacquered. Diameter: 29 cm Chips, minor damage and restorations.
