Each soldier's uniform consists of a salacco, an Annamite headdress made of bamboo strips that protects against both sun and rain, and a paletot, a straight, generally rather short garment that opens at the front and is worn over the other garments, wide pants, a red cloth belt under the jacket, and a regulation leather belt specific to the colonial infantry, model 1870. They wear the Chassepot model 1866 bayonet on their belts and are equipped with the Chassepot 1866 rifle. 12.5 x 9.5 cm Staff and gilded wood frame.
