André GIDE. L.A.S., Cuverville August 13, 1912, to "cher vieux" [Eugène Rouart]; 2pages in-8.
Gide is planning a trip to Italy, in view of a book, and would be delighted if his friend would join him in Rome after September 8. "We would go together to try to reach that mysterious village Sarracinesco, not far from Tivoli, which no guidebook mentions and which has attracted me for many years". He prefers not to be alone on this expedition: "And so much the better if dear Alibert accompanies you!" In the meantime, "I'll have taken the notes I need for my book in Rome; I'll spend ten days with you and them, then get back to work". He looked forward to this little trip, "which I'm sure could be extraordinary"... [The trip took place in 1913, from April 21 to May 5, with Ghéon and Rouart, and Impressions d'Italie was published at the same time].
