Pierre REVERDY (1889-1960). L.A.S. "P.R.", [Solesmes January 2, 1954], to an English friend Fyfe Duthy; 2pages large in-8, on the back of an illustrated card depicting a miniature from Les Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, envelope.
He refers to the pigs depicted in the miniature: "Here they are at last, crunching pearls. I don't know if I'm on one side of the barricade or the other. Maybe both. There's also a dog, a pig farmer - and a rather beautiful landscape [...] Pigs in those days had hair. We've civilized them a lot since then - from that point of view. Absolutely like men - and it hasn't done them any good". He exchanges a few words of news, adding: "You'd think that turning sixty-five like that - from one day to the next - would seem natural". And he concludes, a little bitterly: "I'd love to laugh with you some more - but, alas, what's there to laugh about?
