Small Qur'an, Iran qâjâr, signed and dated 1811 Manuscript on paper of 17 lines per page in naskhi Arabic in black ink, some characters, some marginal inscriptions and sura titles inscribed in red ink. At the head of the manuscript, a double-page sarlow frontispiece illuminated in gold and polychrome, the text surmounted by poly-lobed lambrequins trimmed with floral scrolls and surrounded by a polychrome floral border and a margin of gilded leafy scrolls. At the end of the Qur'anic text, colophon giving the name of the copyist Ibn Marsûm Mollah Mohamed 'Alî and the date 1227 H / 1811. On the first page, later inscriptions and illegible owner stamps. Bound in gilt-painted papier-mâché and lacquered on the boards with a poly-lobed mandorla flanked by two flowered appendages and trimmed with eglantines, standing out against a powdered gold background, the counterpanes painted green with a fine gilt frame.
