MAISON LELEU - JULES & ANDRÉ LELEU(1883-1961) & (1907-1995)
Flight of butterflies among country flowers, marquetry by Messager after a carton by Kasskoff, circa 1948
Exceptional chest of drawers in rosewood veneer.
The curved, cut-out front opens onto four doors; the title composition is developed on all the leaves and executed in ebony and mother-of-pearl marquetry; the background with motifs evoking a wall trellis in precious and indigenous wood marquetry.
The facetted corner jambs, highlighted by decorative ormolu beaded rings at the top and bottom, extend to slightly curved feet with ormolu sabots.
The central part of the belt is underlined by a gilded bronze rush and enriched by a scallop motif, also in gilded bronze.
The light wood and rosewood veneered interior features drawers in the center and shelves on the sides.
Three original keys.
Accidental damage and missing parts around the keyhole on the right-hand door, small scattered cracks in the veneer, varnish oxidation.
Signed J. LELEU, in a dura-formol cartouche on the reverse of the right-hand door.
Height: 97.5 cm - Length: 220 cm - Depth: 51 cm
