EUGÈNE PRINTZ (1879-1948) Lignes brisées, March 1934, the only example in this type of wood known to date, most probably a unique piece, a variant in Patawa palm veneer of the model in rosewood veneer presented at the XXIIIrd Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, Paris, 1933, and acquired by the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1936. Exceptional 7-drawer chest of drawers in Patawa palm veneer. The suspended body features a central projection on the top and opens with a horizontal series of three drawers in the lower section, topped by two wide drawers and two narrow drawers. Each drawer has a top edge trimmed with a sponge-oxidized brass plate and a herringbone-shaped grip, also in oxidized brass. The base, entirely plated in sponge-oxidized brass, houses the front foot, also in sponge-oxidized brass, with a herringbone frieze motif set in scrolls. The sides are supported by long, projecting tongues in oxidized brass. Drawer interiors in sycamore maple. Restored some twenty years ago on the initiative of its owner; only the varnish and the sponge-oxidation decoration on the brass parts have been redone, and the usual restorations have been carried out. No elements were altered or replaced during this intervention, so the integrity of the work has been totally preserved. Stamped with the monogram E. P. in a circular cartouche in standing wood on the right jamb of the front. Height: 87 cm - Length: 150 cm - Depth: 40 cm Provenance : - Mr. and Mrs. X., close friends of the artist.
