Pair of bronze candelabras, with four lights decorated with scrolls and ram heads, joined to a shaft decorated with profiles of Roman emperors, resting on a triangular base with sphinx figures and garlands; (accidents and missing parts, notably two garlands; some parts to be refixed; total absence of gilding). Model by André-Charles Boulle. First half of the 18th century. H: 55cm, W: 30cm Several examples of this model are listed as early as the 18th century, notably by the collector Blondel de Gagny in 1776, in the Maréchal de Ségur sale in 1793, in the Duc de Richelieu sale in 1788 and in the Coclers sale in 1789; sometimes advertised without reference to Boulle (Richelieu), by Boulle (Ségur), de Boulle (Blondel de Gagny) or in the Boulle style (Coclers). Later versions, probably by Boulle's sons, produced in the 1730s, feature a different central shaft, without emperor profiles.
