Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) Les Peintres Graveurs. (Poster for an exhibition at Galerie Vollard). 1896. Lithograph. [482 x 662]. Bouvet 38. color print. A very fine proof on thin ivory vellum, carefully interfaced. A few restored tears at the edges of the folio. Tiny white spot in the lower right green. Full margins. "In June 1896, Vollard took advantage of the inauguration of his new gallery at 6, rue Laffitte to organize a major exhibition devoted to painter-engravers. He thus created an event around the publication of his first album of prints. The exhibition was a success, but subscribers and enthusiasts were few and far between. Both collections were commercial failures. Vollard abandons his plans for a third album as a follow-up". (Clara Roca, insert for the exhibition "Édition limitée, Vollard, Petiet et l'estampe de maîtres", exhibition at the Petit Palais, Paris, May 19-August 29, 2021).
