Andy Warhol:
Born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA) into a family of Eastern European immigrants, Andy Warhol caused a sensation by transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary.
With his striking works, Andy Warhol broke down the barriers between high art and commercial art. He challenged preconceived ideas about art and the art-making process, and definitively changed the criteria for defining art. Warhol's provocative depictions of trivial objects were immediately recognized by art collectors and the public worldwide, driving up auction prices to phenomenal heights. Andy Warhol succeeded in doing what few artists have: he became not only a legend in his own lifetime, but also a true icon of contemporary culture who continues to inspire us today.
Unnumbered Special Edition, inspired by Andy Warhol's favorite subject, Campbell's soup cans, first exhibited at the Ferus Art Gallery in Los Angeles in 1962. Promoter of the Pop Art movement.
The straight, cobalt-blue resin body contrasts with the orange rings, recalling one of the color variations in Warhol's Colored Campbell's Soup Can series of 1965.
The cap and cone refer to the lid of the soup can. Embedded in the stainless steel, four reproductions of Campbell's Tomato Soup appear two by two, recalling the serial production of images through silkscreen printing.
The cap is impressively long, covering 2/3 the length of the nib. The weight is equally impressive, approaching 55 grams! The articulated clip takes the shape of the tool inseparable from the screen-printing technique: the squeegee.
The top of the cap is engraved with white letters on a blue background: Art is what you can get away with. In tribute to the Andy Wahrol Foundation for the Visual Arts, created in 1987, Copy Right/TM AWF and the artist's signature are engraved on the cap ring.
Andy Warhol's transformation into a popular icon has boosted sales of his pieces and inspired new paintings in the Dollar signs series.
Equipped with a 14-carat rhodium-plated gold nib, engraved with the controversial dollar sign, symbolizing the place of money in popular culture. Piston filling system.
In box with papers and over-box.
