Homer 1581:
Published annually since 1992, the Ecrivains collection honors the lives and works of the greatest icons in the history of literature.
2018 pays tribute to the Greek aede Homer, author of the two monumental epics The Iliad and The Odyssey.
For the fourth year running, Montblanc presents a limited edition, small-run edition of the Writers of the Year. Numbered at 1581 (number 425), the year in which the first major translation of the Iliad was published.
Body in coral-colored matte resin embellished with a gold-plated metal plate in the shape of a horse's head, fully riveted.
Champagne-gold-plated metal cap, embellished with engravings evoking Achilles' iron scale armor, a weapon forged by the god Hephaestus. These scales are also engraved on the fountain pen's plunger.
The Trojan horse, the famous stratagem devised by Ulysses to put an end to the Trojan War, is recognizable in the lines and engravings of this edition, which reproduce the stylized head and body of a horse.
This unusual, curved and highly embossed shape lends character to the piece. The Iliad itself, i.e. the Poem on Ilion (or Troy), recounts a short episode of the siege, marked by Achilles' anger. Achilles, the main hero, and his legendary spear, gave birth to the shape of the yellow-gold-plated clasp.
Ancient aedes used rhythm and rhyme to help memorize long texts. The strict hexameter form chosen by Homer gives the verse its rigid framework. It consists of six feet of three syllables, except for the last, which contains only two. The finely engraved Greek frieze on the gilded attributes is inspired by the hexameter's six-foot structure.
The long, two-tone 18-carat gold nib, the size of Meisterstück 149, is engraved with the head of a (Trojan) horse. Piston filling.
The pen is still sealed in its plastic case.
In its box with its papers and over-box.
