Leonetto CAPPIELLO (1875-1942)
Seasickness, circa 1933
Mixed media. Mounted on canvas.
Signed lower left.
(Small tears on the edges. Lines and rubbing).
144.5 x 95 cm

A strange project - apparently never published - for a medication against seasickness. Black sky and inky sea provide the backdrop against which a small rowing boat stands out. On board, two passengers visibly afflicted with seasickness and, standing triumphantly at the bow, the man promoting the product, radiant and in great shape. It's an eye-catching image, but what can you do for such an unlikely product?
