Leonetto CAPPIELLO (1875-1942) Baudin, the cook of cooks, 1933 Mixed media. Mounted on canvas. Signed upper left. (Tears. Stains. Folds). 120 x 80 cm Bibliography : Rennert, p. 311, no. 505. Promoting a stove is not an exercise in fantasy: all the more so as the object is massive. This led Cappiello to his first choice: a light background. He then illustrated the slogan with a cook wearing a strange chef's hat. The eye-catching touch - and therefore the spot - is the generous plume of smoke rising from the pan, proof of the power of the machine. On the printed poster, everything has changed. The background has turned blue, highlighting the now light-gray stove! The stove's cap is less improbable and more elegant. Finally, a saucepan has been added, but the plume of smoke is still there to catch the eye! Proof of a real debate with the advertiser.
