Leonetto CAPPIELLO (1875-1942)
Super Fuel, 1924
Mixed media. Wrapped in canvas.
Signed upper right.
(Minor stains and rubbing).
199 x 130 cm

Cappiello achieved his first major advertising success with the red horse for Klaus chocolate in 1903. His career was crowned by La Force motrice, a fresco of red and white horses commissioned to decorate the advertising pavilion at the 1937 Exposition. Strangely, he rarely used horses in majesty in his posters(1) , with this rare exception (in our opinion, unedited). A richly modeled white winged horse soars above the planet, ridden by a horsewoman. This spirited, highly symbolic image stands in stark contrast to his usual style.

(1) For Cinzano, it's a zebra!
