Advertising - as it was called at the time - understood very early on that reality was not the driving force behind making the public dream, or prompting the act of purchase... Unlike the German school, following in the footsteps of Lucian Bernhard, which with the "Sachplakat" (object poster) was content to present the object in majesty, it gave itself complete freedom to simply catch the eye of the passer-by - and therefore, potentially sell!
Take, for example, this poster for Ricqlès Mint: the mint is green, as is its alcohol, which may, admittedly, be white. Colors that don't lend themselves to posters. So why not go for the farting red! With, as is often the case, a young woman brandishing an oversized bottle - and the trick is done!
