DAUBENTON (Louis Jean-Marie).
Instruction pour les bergers et pour les propriétaires de troupeaux ; Avec d'autres Ouvrages sur les Moutons et sur la Laines.
Paris : imprimerie de la République, An X [1801-1802]. - In-8, dark blue box, gilt frame with lobed rhombus rectangle at corners and center of sides, surrounded by two gilt fillets on boards, smooth spine decorated, red head, untrimmed (modern imitation binding).

Third partly original edition, "published by order of the government" by veterinarian Jean-Baptiste Huzard (1755-1838). It was the first to appear posthumously. It opens with Étienne de Lacépède's "Discours Sur la Vie et les Ouvrages de Daubenton", which Daubenton delivered at the opening of the natural history course at the Muséum d'histoire naturelle in year 8 of the Republic, followed by an interesting historical and bibliographical note on Jean-Baptiste Huzard's editions and translations of the work.

This new edition includes 16 lessons. The fourteenth, "sur les remèdes les plus necessaires aux troupeaux", appears here for the first time. Between lessons 15 and 16, 15 memoirs or extracts from memoirs have been inserted: "sur la rumination et sur le tempérament des bêtes à laine", "sur l'amélioration des bêtes à l'aine", "sur les remèdes les plus necessaires aux troupeaux", "sur les laines de France comparées aux laines étrangères", "sur le parcage des bêtes à laine", etc.

The illustration includes 22 plates engraved by Patas and Queverdo after Fossier, the same as in the original 1782 edition.

A good copy in modern pastiche binding.
Some light spotting, not serious.
