CÉLINE (Louis-Ferdinand). Guignol's band. Novel. Paris : Denoël, [1944]. - In-16, 189 x 127: frontispiece, 348 pp, (2 ff. last blank), printed cover. Paperback, folder and slipcase. Dauphin & Fouché, 44A1. First edition of Céline's third novel, recounting Ferdinand Bardamu's peregrinations in London in 1915-1916, where bitterness and burlesque are balanced. Following on from Mort à crédit, it forms a kind of hinge in the author's work, foreshadowing later works. It is only part of a larger novel, the sequel to which was not published posthumously until 1964, under the title Le Pont de Londres. One of 60 copies on Arches vellum, this being one of 50 placed in trade (no. 32), the second paper after 15 copies on Hollande. It is complete with the folding frontispiece photograph, which only appears in large paper copies. A very well preserved copy.
