CÉLINE (Louis-Ferdinand).
L'École des cadavres.
Paris : Denoël, [1938]. - In-8, 214 x 139: 305 pp. (1 blank), 2 plates, printed cover. Red morocco, boards and spine decorated with a long-line pattern of oblique gilt fillets and black and gray triangular motifs symbolizing paper airplanes, smooth spine, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, red morocco spine and cover bands, lined slipcase (Alix).

Dauphin & Fouché, 38A1.

First edition of this hateful, anti-Semitic pamphlet, written as a sequel to Bagatelles pour un massacre, which was in the same vein.

In it, Céline fulminates indiscriminately against Jews, Russian Communists, "enjuivés" Frenchmen, Freemasons, the Catholic Church and others. Following the promulgation of the Marchandeau decree on May 10, 1939, publisher Robert Denoël, in agreement with the author, withdrew the two pamphlets Bagatelles pour un massacre and L'École des cadavres from sale. Reissued in 1941, L'École des cadavres was cut by 6 pages following a court ruling on June 21, 1939. It was published again in 1942, before Céline forbade any reprinting after 1945.

The edition is illustrated with 4 black & white photographs on two sheets of coated paper outside the text.

One of 100 copies on Lafuma pur fil, this being one of 75 sold, bearing number 38.

A very fine copy bound by Alix.

Cover spine browned.
