First edition dedicated to Édouard Manet, not printed on large paper. This text is a romanticized version of a play that had not been accepted three years earlier. It first appeared in the magazine L'Événement from September 2 to October 20, 1868, under the title La Honte. A very fine copy bound by Yseux. Some restoration to cover. First endpapers warped.
