[REVUE]. Le Chambard socialiste. Paris, December 16, 1893 - June 8, 1895. - 78 issues bound in an in-folio volume, 498 x 341. Red half cloth, smooth spine (period binding). Very rare complete collection of this satirical socialist weekly founded by journalist and politician Gérault-Richard (1860-1911). Gérault-Richard introduces his paper as follows: "By launching this publication, I intend to provide the Socialist Party with a weapon it lacks, and which all other political parties have resorted to. Le Chambard will leave to its fellow dailies, magazines and other organs the discussion of theories and the exposition of doctrines. It will attack men directly. It will use its pencil and pen, its caricature and satire, its charge and violent polemics, to fight to the bitter end against the enemies of workers, regardless of coat or feathers. Le Chambard will fearlessly and mercilessly denounce social iniquities and their perpetrators, the exactions of exploiters, government scoundrels and corruptions. It will not shrink from responsibility. It will spare no power. Le Chambard will not argue, it will strike hard and firm. Each issue has 4 pages, the first of which is adorned with a large illustration, mostly in color, by three artists: Théophile Alexandre STEINLEN, Hector Colomb MOLOCH and Édouard COUTURIER. Only issue 20 has no illustration on page 1, but a large lithograph by Steinlen covering pages 2 and 3, commemorating Labor Day. The articles and texts are not often signed, but include the names of Clovis Hugues, author of several poems, Henri Brissac, Louis Duflot, Maxime Audouin and others. A good copy in a sober contemporary binding. Spotting and rubbing to boards. Non-missing tear to second leaf of number 13. Tears, one restored, to second leaf of last issue.
