Copper-alloy statuette of Bodhisattva Maitreya, Nepal, 13th century Seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base, hands in dharmachakra mudra, wearing a dhoti adorned with pearls and jewels, serene face with forehead urna and smiling mouth (much worn from handling). Hair up in a high bun, held in an elaborate tiara of foliage, flanked on either side of the shoulders by a lotus stem and flower. Remains of gilding and stone inlays. Height: 16 cm; weight: 745 g Significant wear to metal and gilding. Dented base, no consecration plate.
