Glass snuffbox, painted on the inside with scenes of Piété Filiale by Liu Ziyi, 劉子艺, dated 1978 Decorated on one side with Wang Xiang seated on a frozen stream watching with surprise two carp spouting from a hole cleared of broken ice and the inscription: 卧冰求鲤 / 二十四孝 / 戊午冬月 / 刘子艺作 - "The quest for fish under the ice / The Twenty-four Examples of Subsidiary Piety / A winter month in the year of Wu wu (1978) / Work by Liu Ziyi". On the reverse, a figure under bamboo and the inscription: 哭竹生笋 / 二十四孝 / 痛孝类- "Crying for the bamboo to give birth to shoots / The Twenty-four Examples of Subsidiary Piety / Category of painful filial piety / Made by Liu Ziyi one winter month 1978 wuwu". Each shoulder is adorned with a Buddhist lion mask and a ring. Rose quartz stopper. Height: 5.7 cm Liu Ziyi was born in 1940. He was one of the first students of Master Wang Xisan, whom he met in the late 1960s. He soon became an accomplished artist, finding inspiration in literature, the great novels and classical Chinese poetry.
