Félix Buhot (1847-1898) La Falaise - Saint-Malo Bay, or L'Abri - Dinard. 1889-1890.etching and drypoint. 400x300 (symphonic margins plate coup). Bourcard-Goodfriend 165. Very fine proof combining the central subject fixed by the upper edge under the symphonic margins: the subject in trial proof on old azure laid paper, stamped (Lugt 977), with various annotations in pencil in the artist's hand to the printer ("very good", "the line a little fatter", "rolled up naturally"), with small explanatory sketches, the lower right corner cut off; the margins printed in bluish black on strong cream vellum, stamped (L.977), with minor foxing and heavy oxidized banding around the edges. Annotation in pencil by the artist's hand along the lower left edge of the margins: "proof on azure paper (the only harmony of this kind I was able to obtain)/with bistre in the margins". Other annotations in pencil by another hand in the upper left-hand corner. Small loss in upper right corner. Stamp of J. H. de Bois (Lugt 733) on the subject and on the margins.
