A set of two groove weights and a small zoomorphic pestle. The shapes of these old and beautiful groove weights, light for a trap, a line or a net, are characteristic and comparable to other fishing weights of the same style identified in Hawaii or New Zealand, but could very well also come from the Marquesas Islands, as is probably the case of the delightful little zoomorphic pestle whose representation is quite rare and must have had a real specificity. Polynesia Stones (basalt), very fine old erosions, and beautiful patinas of use. H. 9.5 cm and 8.5 cm (for the two weights), and 5.5 cm (for the pestle) See p. 380 for other tumbler weights in: Polynesia The Mark and Carolyn Blackburn Collection of Polynesain Art, Adrienne L. Kaeppler, Ed. M. & C. Blackburn 2010. Provenance : Jean Roudillon Collection
