These small cloth bags containing soil taken from the Mount of Olives and other holy sites in Israel were distributed by Reb Yitzchak Isaac Nissenbaum, who was a member of the Ashkenazi community's Chevra Kadisha. Often, emissaries collecting money for Jews in the Holy Land would distribute these bags to major donors.
