ZUCKERMAN (Ben Zion). Kinstlerischer Aleph-Bet. [Artistic Alphabet]. Wilner publishing house of B. A. Kletskin. Vilnius 1920. Small oblong in-4 (20 x 26.5 cm). (33) ff. printed recto: illustrated lithographed ochre soft card covers, fountain and ornate decoration framed on the first, publisher's initials in the center of the second. Unique edition of an alphabet of ornate letters, designed by painter and engraver Ben Zion Zuckerman (Kaunas, Lithuania 1890-1944 Samarkand). After attending the Vilnius School of Drawing (close to his birthplace), Berlin, the Beaux-Arts of Paris, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Vilnius - where he produced this work in 1920 - and Jerusalem, Zuckerman's training was made up of travel and study. Centered on the page, his finely engraved drawings feature characters, animals and scenery associated with calligraphic lettering. The last picture, of a ship on undulating waves under a cloudy sky, is underlined by the word "fin" in ornate lettering. An unusual work. Small trace of wetness at the head of the first cover, split at the head of the spine and missing at the foot. Keywords: judaica, jew, jewish, hebrew, rabbis, jewish, torah, hebrew, hebraica, judaism, synagogue, zionism, pessah, pessach, haggada, haggadah, hagada, hagadah, passover, menora, menorah, hannuka, hannuca, hannucca, hanouccah, torah, juden, israélite, Israël, antisemitism, antisémitisme, dreyfus, meguila, sepharade, sefarad, ketouba
