HAVURAT TSAYARIM. [APTER (Jacob), MUTSELMAKHER (Moses), KERAVATSOV (Aaron). KHIGER (Efim). Hamishah ivrim. [Five blind men]. Verlag "Omonuth". Frankfurt am Main. Moscow. Odessa. 1922. In-4 oblong (22.5 x 28.4 cm). (10) pp. including covers: lithographed covers in green, orange, black and taupe, elephant in a frame on the first, blind man in front of a city in a rose window on the second, medallions printed at the foot. Unique edition of the lithographed color illustrations, by the group of four great painters who had studied together at the Odessa School of Art: Jacob Apter (1899-1941), Moses Mutselmakher (1900-1961), Aaron Keravatsov (1896-1942) and Efim Khiger (1899-1955). The Omanut [Art] publishing house was founded in Moscow in 1917, banished by the authorities after the Revolution, moved to Odessa in 1918 and then, from 1920, to Frankfurt [and Tel Aviv 1925-1945], and continued to publish beautiful books for children. This title is part of the Gamliel Library. Five plates in naturalistic tones, in a slightly naïve style with flat tints and relief represented by small hatchings, the unity of the paintings shows that they were certainly created by a single artist. They illustrate the Indian fable of the Blind Men and the Elephant. Each artist touches a part of the animal and gives his or her interpretation, and although each is partly right, as a whole they are all wrong. Perfect condition, with just a tiny loss on the upper corner of the second cover. Keywords: judaica, jew, jewish, hebrew, rabbis, jewish, torah, hebrew, hebraica, judaism, synagogue, zionism, pessah, pessach, haggada, haggadah, hagada, hagadah, passover, menora, menorah, hannuka, hannuca, hannucca, hanouccah, torah, juden, israélite, Israël, antisemitism, antisémitisme, dreyfus, meguila, sepharade, sefarad, ketouba
