HORLOGERIE. PATEK, PHILIPPE. L.S. "Patek, Philippe Co", Geneva July 18, 1882, to Fernand Lajarrigue, Consul of Portugal in Nice; 2 1/2 pages in-4 on Manufacture d'Horlogerie letterhead. Patek, Philippe & C°.
He is informed "that a watch externally measuring 61 millimeters in diameter, with winding mechanism, repeating at will the hours, quarters & minutes, anchor escapement, compensating balance, etc., etc., enamel dial, with a small seconds hand and with a large independent chronographic hand in the center, marking the 1/5th of a second, stopping at will and returning to XII, extra-strong soap box and gold cuvette, with embossed numeral F. L. would cost you frcs 2750 (an exceptional price in view of the position you occupy, Monsieur le Commandeur, in the press and the services you could render us in this respect)". It would take 6 to 9 months "perhaps longer to deliver this watch to you. We think it unnecessary to add that it would be of the highest quality, second-ironed, definitively set for the pocket, tested at high and low temperatures, and accompanied by a certificate of origin and guarantee. The variation of 2 to 3 minutes per month that you mention is very reasonable, and we hope that this part will work even more accurately"... Etc.
