Jules VALLÈS (1832-1885). 3 L.A.S., 1882-[1884]; 5pages and a quarter in-8.
Maisons Laffitte June 8, 1882, to M. Paër. He is no longer in Gil Blas and can do nothing for him. He has shut himself away in the country: "If I didn't have a treaty with Le Réveil, I wouldn't write there any more than I would to Gil Blas, having my novel l'Insurgé to deliver on July 1st to the Nouvelle Revue"... - Paris Monday evening [1883]. Despite a sore eye, he lunches "at the Café de la Paix, around noon, correcting my proofs of France"; he waits for his friend for lunch "or at 6 o'clock, absinthe time, still at the Café de la Paix". - Brussels [circa 1884]. He waits for Barbillon (the cook) to send him the mail from London that has arrived for him, including the placards, and gives his address in Brussels ("Pascal chez M. Vichard 62, Boulevard central"), so that he can be sent "all new proofs"...
Attached is a l.a.s. from Georges Lecomte concerning Vallès.
