Michel CIRY (1919-2018). 30 L.A.S., "La Bergerie" Varengeville 1971-1983, and 2postcards from Toledo and Venice, to Pierre Lhoste and his wife; 33 pages in-4, 25 envelopes. Friendly letters: annual greetings, Parisian appointments, invitations (in 1978 for lunch with Jacques de Bourbon-Busset). Ciry regularly sends the volumes of his Diary as they are published (le Buisson ardent in 1973, the 5th volume in 1977). He is very satisfied with his interviews, and thanks Pierre Lhoste: "One could talk for hours (poor audience!) if well questioned [...] your interview with Le Clezio is astonishingly lively" (9.11.71); "Surely one of my best interviews. Thank you, my dear Pierre, for giving it this tone" (1978); "Thank you for allowing me to express myself in total freedom, once again! I love it" (1982). In 1979, he was delighted that Plon had agreed to publish Lhoste, and encouraged him: "Given your talent as a born chronicler, and the variety as well as the importance of the personalities you have met and known well, I have no doubt that this Diary will be fascinating (to my envy!)". In 1982, he left for Rome, where he was to meet John Paul II: "What a joy to approach this great holy man!" We enclose a L.A.S. to M. Estrade for organizing an interview with Pierre Lhoste in 1971, and 2 invitation cards for the opening of his exhibitions Solitude de Jésus (1972) and Peintures et aquarelles (1977, with dedication a.s.).
