FRENCH SCHOOL circa 1850, entourage of Anthelme TRIMOLET The Mechanics Laboratory of Professor Ennemond Eynard (1749-1837) Original canvas 55.5 x 45.5 cm Our painting is a reworking of Trimolet's composition in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon (canvas, circa 1817-1818, 53.7 x 44 cm). In 1817, Trimolet painted L'Atelier de mécanique du professeur Eynard (right), commissioned by the art restorer Monsieur Brun, whose pupil he was. A doctor until 1785, he then turned his attention to the physical sciences and mathematics applied to industry, such as mechanics, as evidenced by the collection of tools shown. On the advice of his master Pierre Révoil (1776-1842), Trimolet presented the painting at the Salon of 1819, where it met with great success and even won a gold medal. He produced a second version dated 1836 (in a private collection).
