The attribution was communicated by Michel Faré to the owner. A native of Rouen, Michel-Bruno Bellengé (or Bellanger) was introduced by Chardin to the Académie de Peinture and was accepted in 1762, becoming a member in 1764. He supplied models for the Savonnerie carpets.
