Charles-Édouard JEANNERET dit LE CORBUSIER (1887 - 1965) Two women, 1932 Watercolor and India ink on rag paper. Signed and dated lower left. 29.5 x 20.5 cm A certificate from Mr. Eric Mouchet will be given to the buyer. The introduction of the female body into Corbusé's body of work around 1928 was marked by early representations of his wife Yvonne performing domestic tasks. These paintings incorporate purist codes such as geometric shapes and the representation of volumes in successive planes. Then, as he discovered seaside leisure activities, the artist began to illustrate the pleasures of dancing, naturism and holidays with friends, drawing bathers, alone or in groups, on the beach. The present drawing is part of a small series that Le Corbusier created between 1932 and 1933, characterized by sculptural bodies whose shadows seem to have been carved with a serrated knife. During this short period, Le Corbusier adopted the graphic codes that his friend, the German painter Willi Baumeister, had used shortly before in his allegorical depictions of various fashionable sports.
