The last still lifes from this first phase of Corbusé's painting were influenced by the biomorphism that emerged with the progress of cellular photography and invaded art magazines. These still lifes gained in color and pictorial fantasy what they lost in purist rigor inherited from their author's Calvinist upbringing. In place of the original purist ideal of inventing standard representations of domestic objects while respecting their formal integrity, Le Corbusier here substitutes a symbolic composition, combining his recurring themes of the lantern and the coffee pot with evocations of mathematics with the Möbius strip, and of modern construction with the transparent, structural glass brick.
