It will appear in his catalog raisonné currently in preparation. Once again, Victor Hugo dazzles us in his melancholy mists. A steeple appears, traces of Japanese trees emerge from stains and feathers, the glimmer of thatched cottages from the Middle Ages pierce this mist of brown ink. The plain in the foreground is in motion, the wash and paper reserve rippling the green grass like marsh water.
