Charles GOUNOD (1818-1893) L.A.S., Arcachon October 15, 1892, to a Director; 1 page and a half in-8 with letterhead and vignette Hôtel Continental (en forêt) B. Ferras (cracks at folds, one edge reinforced). He did not write the music mentioned by the Director [probably Le Bourgeois gentilhomme], and Saint-Saëns's marvelous memory fails him: What is accurate in his recollections is that I simply filled a gap in the original score, by writing the Pas des Tailleurs, which we had not been able to find. He suggested using the Chœurs d'Ulysse that he had composed for Ponsard's tragedy... Attached is an original photograph of Gounod, his son Jean and grandson Pierre (24 x 18 cm).
